Former Graduate Student

Dr. Tyler Paplham

Tyler received his B.S.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He has previously conducted research on the additive manufacturing of functional magnetic alloys, including experimental work performed at Argonne National Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh with a thesis entitled “Next Generation Soft Magnetic Alloys Through Advanced Electromagnetic and Stress Field Processing,” combining advanced manufacturing process development, electromagnetic modeling, custom instrumentation design, and characterization of nanocrystalline and bulk magnetic alloys. His work was supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development, NASA, and the AMPED industry partners, in collaboration with Carpenter Technology Corporation, CorePower Magnetics, NASA Glenn Research Center, and Raytheon Technologies. He is also a co-recipient of a 2025 R&D 100 Award.
